The conference theme is Design. Reveal. Act. It is simultaneously a conference, a showcase and workshops on Information Design and Data Visualization. The conference brings together practitioners from diverse fields working at the forefront of Information Design: they create compelling visualizations, reveal insights in data and inspire data-driven action.

Across all disciplines the visualization of data has become a key part in every process that seeks to gain insight and enable transformation. This year, Visualizing Knowledge takes interest in the designers, scientists and journalists who are driving advancement in the fields of data visualization and information design, creating and using visualization in new and unusual ways to reveal issues and challenges through data.

"What is special about this conference is that it is largely organized by students. For the conference showcase, 64 student projects were submitted from around the world, with works from the US, Europe, Israel, China and more", says Rupesh Vyas, Professor of Information Design at Aalto University.

The Visualizing Knowledge also features, for the first time, an exhibition that showcases new talents from the field of Information Design. Following an open call that yielded high quality entries from all over the world, 13 works were selected in regard to understandability, societal impact, aesthetic qualities and visual innovation. Projects from the Aalto University’s Information Design track are exhibited alongside the international entries.

Date: 2–4 May, 2018
Venue: Dipoli, Aalto University, Otakaari 24, Espoo.
