Build Your Brand: LinkedIn Strategies for Doctoral Researchers
Many doctoral researchers believe LinkedIn is only for people moving into industry, or that sharing their work there feels like self-promotion. The truth is a bit different, and this workshop will show you why.
Whether you stay in academia or move into industry, this workshop gives you the tools to turn your LinkedIn profile into a professional brand that speaks to employers, collaborators, funders, and recruiters.
Why it matters?
Opportunities rarely come to people nobody can find.
In industry, recruiters search LinkedIn for people who can solve problems, lead projects, and work with stakeholders. In academia, research groups, funders, and conference organisers use it to spot new collaborators and postdoc candidates. Many doctoral researchers have exactly these working skills yet stay invisible online, missing opportunities that are never advertised.
This workshop helps doctoral students and researchers build a LinkedIn presence that makes their expertise visible, whether their next step is a postdoc, a research collaboration, or a role in industry and public organizations.
What you'll learn
- The most common mistakes researchers make on their LinkedIn profiles
- How recruiters, research groups, and funders search for and evaluate profiles
- How to write a headline and About section that work for both academic and industry audiences
- How to announce a publication, conference talk, or grant so people actually read it
- How often to post, and what to share when you have no new results
- How to grow a meaningful network and reach out without feeling pushy
-
How to position yourself as a capable professional, not only an academic specialist
A Unique Feature of This Workshop: One Profile, Two Career Paths
Through concrete before and after examples, participants will see how the same doctoral profile can speak to an academic audience, an industry audience, or both, and how a new publication can become a post that builds real visibility.
Who should attend?
Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who want to build visibility for an academic career, explore opportunities beyond academia, or keep both doors open.
