Stanford Summer Program 2018 participants selected

Number of applications by Aalto School: ARTS 19, BIZ 21, CHEM 6, ELEC 6, ENG 5 and SCI 12.

For the 8th time Aalto students had the opportunity to apply for the Stanford Summer International Honors Program IHP. We received altogether 69 applications, and as before, a high level of motivation and high academic achievement were featured in nearly all applications.

The selection process was the same as before; the preliminary selection was made by the Aalto Schools and based on that 17 candidates were invited for an interview. Three group interviews were organized on 8th and 9th February in Otaniemi.

The final selection was based on motivation and vision, academic performance and relevance of the preliminary study plan. Excellent English language communication skills and a strong academic recommendation were naturally required. The interviews were an essential part of the selection process. Also the student鈥檚 ability to represent Aalto at Stanford affected the final decision.

Given the high academic standard and excellent motivation letters, the final selection was again very challenging: all of the students we interviewed were worthy candidates for the SSIHP program.

鈥淭alking with and seeing the pitches and group works of the 17 shortlisted students for the Aalto University scholarships to the Stanford International Honors Program was truly an eye-opening experience. It exposed the brilliance of Aalto students and the really fascinating personal ambitions of each of the shortlisted candidates. The selected 6 students鈥 delegation represent the great diversity and multidisciplinary strength of Aalto鈥 says Associate Professor of Strategic Management Robin Gustafsson who interviewed the candidates together with the Head of International Relations Mari-Anna Suurmunne.

The selected students for the Stanford IHP 2018 are: Tommi Bergstr枚m, BIZ (Bachelor鈥檚 programme in Business, Finance), Suha Chowdhury, ELEC (Bachelor鈥檚 programme in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering), Helmi Korhonen, ARTS (Bachelor's Programme in Arts, Design and Architecture, Design), Aaro Koski, SCI (Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology, Industrial Engineering and Management), Emma Verkama, CHEM (Bachelor's Programme in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Chemical Technology) and Anna Vil茅n, ENG (Bachelor鈥檚 programme in Engineering, Energy and Environmental Technology).
