Master’s programmes attracted a high number of applications

Aalto University received 5925 applications to master’s programmes.

The application period for Aalto University's master’s programmes ended on 3 January 2022. The programmes received altogether 5925 applications of which 3446 were to the field of science and technology, 1589 to the field of art and design and 890 to business and economics.

In the field of business and economics, the most popular programmes were Yritysjuridiikka (Business law, available only in Finnish) and Business Analytics. In the field of art and design, Collaborative and Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design received most applications. In the field of science and technology, the most popular study options were Machine Learning, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. There are altogether 98 master's and double degree study options at Aalto, of which 71 study options were available during this master’s application period. 

Altogether, Aalto received applications from 119 countries. Excluding Finland, the highest number of applications came from China and India. 73% of the applications came from international applicants who have pursued their previous degree outside Finland. 

The numbers reported in this article do not include the incumbent students pursuing their studies right from their undergraduate degrees. 

The recently ended application period was for Aalto’s two-year master’s programmes based on a completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent studies. The upcoming application period for bachelor’s programmes taught in English runs from 5 to 19 January 2022, and the application period for bachelor’s programmes in Finnish/Swedish runs from 16 to 30 March 2022.  

The master’s admission results will be published 29 March 2022 at the earliest.

Aalto graduates’ transition to working life and their experience of studies and careers are monitored annually through a career monitoring survey. The responses to the survey provide important information about the work life of graduates, both for current students and for young people considering their future studies. In addition, the information collected is used to develop Aalto University’s teaching and services.

Student Sarah Asfar balances studies and competitive sports in her daily life
