Aalto University was 54th in the world in the recent Times Higher Education Business & Economics ranking. Last year, Aalto’s ranking in this area was 62nd.  Among European universities, Aalto was 15th.

The top 3 of the ranking includes Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and University of Oxford.

The Times Higher Education (THE) ranking is one of the world's most distinguished university rankings and it measures the performance of universities with 13 indicators in the areas of international research, citations, teaching and research funding from companies.

In addition to rankings of specific fields of science, the THE also produces general ranking that measures the performance of universities as a whole. The THE general ranking last September put Aalto in 184th place in the world.

Depending on the method of calculation, there are approximately between 17 000 and 22 000 universities in the world. Aalto University is specialised in technology, business and the arts, and highly values cooperation with companies. Field or subject-specific rankings are the most relevant for Aalto University, as these depict the university's areas of operation better than general rankings.
