Aalto University places 116th in this year’s QS World University Rankings, last year’s ranking was 112. Aalto ranks second among Finnish universities.

Aalto performs best in the ‘Citation per Faculty’ indicator, which measures the impact of research. In this key metric, Aalto University ranks 68th in the world and takes top spot in Finland.

The QS evaluates universities according to six metrics: number of research citations per faculty, proportion of international faculty members, proportion of international students, academic reputation, employer reputation, and student-to-faculty ratio.

The number of research citations per faculty is determined from information in the Scopus database, calculated relative to the number of research faculty and normalised according to the five main branches of science. Employer reputation is based on a reputation survey of 75 000 employers worldwide. Academic reputation is based on assessments made by academics. The QS World Ranking evaluates the top 1 500 of the estimated 26 000 universities worldwide.

QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) is one of the world's most important university rankings. In its ranking 'QS top 50 under 50', Aalto placed 9th of young universities in the world.

In addition to the general rankings, QS produces rankings in specific fields of science and regional rankings. These specific rankings are more relevant ɫɫÀ² University than the general rankings, as Aalto specialises in technology, business and arts.
