Master's Programme in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education

This site contains the student study guide for the Master's Programme in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education. Here you will find the programme curriculum as well as detailed guidelines for planning your studies. All the materials and instructions are for the students already studying in the programme.

Master's Programme in Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education is organized by the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

NoVA is a two-year masters programme that educates professionals and researchers of the best Nordic practices and traditions in art education and visual communication. NoVA provides relevant competencies and pedagogical interaction skills for working in cross-cultural and international educational situations and environments. The programme builds on Nordic expertise and is open for international students.

NoVA students engage in a variety of learning and teaching methods, including in-person, on-line, and whole group pedagogy, at home and host universities, and at retreats and international seminars. NoVA international faculty members cooperate in curricula planning and collaborative teaching, and employ the latest information and communications technology to actualize the curricula in a personalized and systematic manner. NoVA is entirely in English and is designed from beginning to end, with and through international partners.

Nordic Master in Visual Studies and Art Education (NoVA), Master of Arts (Art and Design)

Nordic Master in Visual Studies and Art Education (NM NoVA) is a double degree program between Aalto University (Finland) and Aalborg University (Denmark) in which students achieve a comprehensive understanding of Nordic practices and traditions in art education, visual culture, and cultural work.

How to apply
NoVA study options

Tuition fees

The programme follows each university's own tuition fee policies.

In Aalto University, the tuition fees for tuition-fee students are the following:

  • Right to study started on or before 1 August 2024: 15,000 EUR / academic year
  • Right to study started on or after 1 August 2025: 20,000 EUR / academic year

Participation costs and fees will be charged according to the university regulations at the Partner Universities.
