Transfer rule
Students Entering Directly into the Master's Programme
Students selected on or after 1 August 2024 will follow the 2024-2026 curriculum (or a newer one) and will not have the option to switch to an older curriculum.
A student selected for the master’s programme before 1 August 2024 may request a transfer to the version of the programme with majors from the student services of the programme. In such a case, the study right will be updated, and the student will be guided in updating their study plan. The student will not have the option to switch back to a previous curriculum.
A student selected for the master’s programme before 1 August 2024 has until 31 July 2027 to graduate according to the 2022-2024 or an earlier curriculum. After this date, the student will be transferred to the version of the programme with majors (effective 1 August 2024 onwards) without a separate application process.
Students Continuing to the Master’s Programme in Mechanical Engineering from Aalto’s Bachelor's Programme (study right includes both Bachelor of Science in Technology and Master of Science in Technology)
Students selected to the bachelor’s programme before 1 August 2024 are allowed to complete the master’s programme in mechanical engineering according to the major-less curriculum of the starting year of their bachelor’s studies (or a newer curriculum) during the transition period. For all students starting the master’s programme in autumn 2024 or later, it is strongly recommended to follow the 2024-2026 or a newer curriculum.
The transition period for completing the master’s programme without a major (i.e., according to the 2022-2024 or an earlier curriculum) is until 31 July 2027. After this date, the student will be transferred to the version of the programme with majors (effective 1 August 2024 onwards) without a separate application process.
