Master’s Programme in Cybersecurity and Assurance (CYBERSURE)

At Aalto University, students face various applications related to the progress of their studies and graduation. Some of these are annual tasks or tasks that each student face at some stage of studies, while some can only come up in special situations.

As a international joint degree programme student, please always primarily follow the instructions of the responsible person(s) of your programme. Special features in joint degree programmes can be related to, for example:

credit transfer process between partner universities (often does not require measures from the student, but is a process between the university administration)
graduation request not only from Aalto University, but also from another or other partner universities

Each university has their own local feedback systems/forms for individual courses.

The CYBERSURE programme has the following feedback surveys:

General feedback form for collecting information from the application phase until enrolment.
First year feedback form for collecting feedback of the first study year + second autumn semester.
Semester 3 feedback form for collecting feedback for second year autumn semester courses and the beginning of final thesis process
Global feedback form for collecting feedback on the whole two-year program at graduation phase.
Alumni feedback form for graduates six to twelve months after graduation.

Dean’s incentive scholarship (SCI)

Since academic year 2016–2017, the School of Science has awarded dean’s incentive scholarships for good academic progress. The scholarship is awarded upon application to those students of the School of Science who meet the conditions below.

The student must complete at least 60 credits on their first year of study. The amount of the incentive scholarship is 250 €.
The student must complete at least 60 credits on their second year of study. The amount of the incentive scholarship is 250 €.
The student must graduate with a bachelor’s degree on their third year of study. The amount of the incentive scholarship is 500 €.

The student must have a primary right to study in the School of Science on 31 July of the academic year in question (excluding students who have graduated with a BSc degree during the academic year). Students with a right to study entering into force the next day, 1 August, are not eligible for the scholarship.

The completed studies must be mainly included in the degree being pursued. If the student has another valid right to study for another degree at Aalto University, first- and second-year bachelor's students must have completed at least 45 credits in accordance with the study plan of the School of Science.

The dean has decided to lower the minimum number of credits required of students who have informed the university of having a learning difficulty or dyslexia, which has slowed the progress of their studies. In such cases, first- and second-year students must earn at least 55 credits during the academic year. Graduation must still occur within the target time according to the above conditions.

The student pursuing both a bachelor’s and master’s degree must graduate with a master’s degree on their fifth year of study. The amount of the incentive scholarship is 500 €.
The student pursuing only a master’s degree must graduate with a master’s degree on their second year of study. The amount of the incentive scholarship is 500 €.

Year of study
A year of study is defined by adding up all terms the student has enrolled as attending in the programme. Being absent for half a year cannot be considered when awarding the scholarship.

Study records
For the purposes of the incentive scholarship, studies and degrees completed in one academic year means studies and degrees that have been completed and marked into the Aalto University student register for the period from 1 August to 31 July.

This includes credits earned during that academic year in some other Finnish or foreign higher education institution, provided they have been transferred into the Aalto University student register. Any raised grades must also be entered into the student register by the end of the academic year to be counted towards the total credits earned.

Other information
The dean’s incentive scholarship can be obtained from only one Aalto school at a time. Tuition-fee-paying students who have been granted the 1500 € incentive scholarship are not eligible for the dean’s incentive scholarship.

The review of the 60 credits and graduation status is checked on 31 August, and any changes made to the register after this date will not be considered. An exception is made for first- and second-year bachelor’s students who have completed exchange studies abroad and have not received the documents from the partner university on time. Their credits must be marked into the student register by 30 September. Graduation must still occur within the target time according to the above conditions.

The time and manner of applying for the scholarship depends on the student’s stage of studies:

First- and second-year bachelor's students who have completed 60 credits will receive application instructions in their Aalto email when the application process begins. The application period occurs annually in October. The scholarship is only awarded upon application, and applications submitted after the application period will not be considered.

If you meet the criteria for the scholarship but have not received the application instructions to your email, please contact studentservices@aalto.fi during the application period.
Those who have graduated with their bachelor's or master's degrees within the target time will receive a link to the scholarship payment form via email in September. The link is sent to the Aalto email for those who have completed their bachelor's degree, while those who have completed their master's degree receive the link at their secondary email address listed in Sisu. The form must be submitted by 30 November.

The decision on granting the scholarships is made by the dean. For more information, please contact studentservices(at)aalto.fi if needed.

Financial support for CYBERSURE students

CYBERSURE programme fee and scholarship scheme (i.e. your student and scholarship agreements) is valid for two academic years. After this, students in CYBERSURE will transfer to the local tuition fee scheme of Aalto University. The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens in Master's level is 17 000 EUR/year. There is no tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens. The definition of tuition fee liability differs slightly from the one of CYBERSURE. Please see Tuition fees and scholarships for more information.

In order to successfully complete studies and apply for graduation after the CYBERSURE agreements expire, students in CYBERSURE may be entitled to discontinuation of tuition fees beyond the standard duration of the degree programme.

Discontinuation of tuition fees

The collection of tuition fees may be discontinued for one academic term, immediately following the last term in the target period of the degree. The tuition fee discontinuation concerns the 5th term in master's programmes.

The tuition fee discontinuation is available to all tuition-fee students, whose study right starts on or after 1 August 2026.

You don't have to apply separately for the tuition fee discontinuation. Please note that discontinuation of tuition fees only applies ɫɫ�� University tuition fees – please check the entry university’s local instructions.

Following the respective term, your tuition-fee payments will continue normally and you will be required to pay tuition fees for any terms for which you want to enrol as attending. If you are planning on graduating during the term, when the collection of tuition fees has been discontinued, please bear in mind that all graduation procedures have to be completed fully by the end of that term.

The additional semester is likely to impact your residence permit, student accommodation and financial arrangements.

Finnish citizens who are eligible for KELA financial aid for studies can receive this aid for Master's Programme in CYBERSURE, just as for any other studies. KELA may offer increased support for studies abroad.

European (EU/EEA or Switzerland) citizens can receive financial aid from KELA (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) for studies in Finland, if the conditions below are met.

You you are employed in Finland for at least 4 months with an average of at least 10 hours of work per week, or if you have taken out statutory pension insurance for self-employed persons. The entitlement to financial aid for students only continues for the duration of the employment.
You you have been granted the right of permanent residence in Finland under the Aliens Act.

In other words, exit students at Aalto University are eligible for financial aid if you get a thesis job in Finland, but only after 4 months of working there. If it is a six-month internship, this means that you can get financial aid for the last two months. As this is a study allowance, it naturally expires when you graduate. The aid is approximately 250 EUR/month.
