Translate Your Research: CVs & Cover Letters for the Job Market Workshops in Autumn

Have you ever wondered why your CV and cover letter are not generating as much interest outside academia as you expected? Are you describing your research instead of your skills and impact?

Many doctoral researchers believe that employers simply do not value a PhD, or that their research experience has little relevance outside academia. The truth is a bit different, and this workshop will show you why.

This workshop gives you the tools to translate your doctoral experience into CVs and cover letters that speak to employers.

Why it matters?

Employers rarely hire someone simply because they hold a PhD.

They hire people who can solve problems, analyse complex information, and drive change. Many doctoral researchers spend years developing exactly these skills yet undersell them or describe them using academic language that recruiters do not recognize, struggling to communicate their true value when applying for positions outside academia.

This workshop helps doctoral students and researchers translate their academic experience into language that resonates with industry, public organizations, and innovation-driven employers.

What you'll learn

  1. The most common mistakes researchers make in their CVs
  2. The skills of doctoral researchers that employers are actively seeking
  3. What makes a PhD different from a Master's degree in the eyes of employers
  4. How recruiters evaluate doctoral researchers
  5. How to translate research experience into business value
  6. How to position yourself as a capable professional instead of only an academic specialist

A Unique Feature of This Workshop: Translating Academic Language into Corporate Language

Through concrete examples, participants will see exactly how their everyday routines as a doctoral researcher translate into the language and responsibilities of a corporate professional.

Who should attend?

Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers considering career opportunities beyond academia or wanting to strengthen their professional profile for a broader job market.

Workshop sessions:

  • Session 11 November  2026, 12:00–14:00
