Something new and something old as Campus Sustainability Champions
This year, numerous community-submitted proposals vied for the title of Campus Sustainability Champion.
The Campus Sustainability Team is looking for a person, entity or activity, which serves as a good example to others, takes concrete action or in some other way significantly brings Aalto University's campus closer to reaching its sustainable development goals. Even small actions make a difference!
This year, the theme of the competition is circular economy and recycling. The theme is inspired by the recycling campaign that started on campus in October 2024. The campaign aims to increase recycling rates and reduce the amount of mixed waste. Who or what insight, action or community has promoted the sustainable development of the campus through circular economy or recycling? The proposal can be related to, for example, research, teaching, art or student projects, or be a practical innovation, measure or initiative.
The Campus Sustainability Champion award is now being presented for the ninth time. Last year, the winners were Aalto Foodsharing and Aalto Repair&Rewear. Honorable mentions in the competition went to the minor subject Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Staff Scientist Pauli Lehto.
The winner will get a small prize and a lot of fame and good visibility as a promoter of campus sustainability. The award will be presented later in the fall at a sustainability event on campus.
