Stay safe near metro stations

When walking on the streets, it is crucial to stay alert to avoid being scammed.

It is crucial to stay vigilant when walking on the streets to avoid falling victim to scams. By taking small actions together, we can create a safer and more pleasant campus for everyone.

When a stranger stops you on the street to ask for money, it is good to stop and think about their reasons for approaching you and whether their need for money something that you should respond to. It may also be a scam attempt.  Often, the scammer emphasises the urgency of the matter and wants you to take quick action. Before complying with their request, assess the potential risks involved. 

How to avoid being scammed

  • Be careful: If the conversation with a stranger shifts to personal topics, such as where you live or how you finance your life, or requests for money, try to move to a safe location. Avoid talking to strangers who ask for money or personal information.
  • Stay within a safe distance.
  • Do not share information: Do not give any personal information or money to strangers.
  • Where possible, stay close to other people.
  • If you encounter suspicious persons or feel threatened, seek a public space immediately and contact the authorities as needed.

Your safety is your top priority. If you notice anything suspicious, contact the police and report the situation to the university security staff (campussecurity@aalto.fi).

Together, we can raise awareness and enhance campus security.

  • Contact the police.
  • Report the offence to the police, or at a police station. This is an important step even if you are unsure of getting your money back.
  • Contact your bank immediately: Block your credit card and prevent payments if your credit card information is at risk or if you have accidentally transferred money.
