Petri Myllymäki new HIIT director

Petri Myllymäki has been elected director of Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT).

Professor Petri Myllymäki from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki is starting from 1.8. as new director of the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT). Myllymäki follows Professor Samuel Kaski of Aalto University in this position. Kaski was recently appointed Academy professor for 2016-2020.

HIIT’s mission is to offer resources for co-operation between University of Helsinki and Aalto University. According to HIIT it is easier to develop an expertise together than alone.

Myllymäki sees the digitalisation as a big opportunity for HIIT.

- Digitalisation and Big Data are new intelligent and global methods for processing and analyzing information. The Helsinki Metropolitan area will be one of the best.

- By bringing together the best researchers from HU and Aalto we have the opportunity to solve big research problems regarding digitalisation. HIIT has a mission to create a “Helsinki ICT” brand which will be one of the most important actors in Europe.
