The European International Business Academy (EIBA) gave its highest award, Distinguished Honorary EIBA Fellow of the Year, to Matti Alahuhta.

Alahuhta was awarded for his merits in three areas. He was awarded for his work as a business leader in the global companies Kone and Nokia, and for his work in executive boards of important global companies. He was also awarded for his contribution to research in international business, of which his doctoral dissertation on global challengers is an example.

In addition, the award was a recognition of his terms as a chair at Aalto University and at the Swiss IMD, one of the leading business schools in the world, as well as for his activities in different organisations to promote international business.

‘The award is usually granted for merits in one of these three sectors, but Alahuhta has distinguished himself in all of them, and his merits are particularly significant in the first two sectors. Alahuhta possesses a capability to combine managing things and leading people. He is both a manager and a leader, which is an important strength particularly in global business,’ said Professor John Cantwell, the Dean of EIBA Fellows, in the awards ceremony in Vienna.

EIBA was founded in 1974 and it has about 650 members mainly in Europe, but also in all the other continents. The membership comprises leading professors and researchers of international business.
