The European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) has awarded a quality label for European Mining Minerals and Environmental Program: European Mining Course (EMMEP EMC).

The panel of independent reviewers decided to grant the quality seal for entrepreneurship & innovation in educational programs to the EMC based on the programme’s longstanding tradition and the ability to adapt itself to changing circumstances over the years.

The European Mining Course (EMC) started more than 20 years ago. From 2011 the programme adapted more towards innovation and leadership in the mining industry.

- It’s a great honor to receive this label. The EIT label means also improved scholarships  for the programme students, says Professor Mikael Rinne, Programme director of EMMEP-EMC.

- The need for experts in mining,  processing and recycling of minerals is growing as the minerals industry grows. Knowledge and skills in many fields of engineering are essential – for example, engineers must be able to account for the environmental impacts of mine projects in the planning and production stages, he reminds.

EMMEP-EMC is one of the oldest ongoing International programmes in Aalto University. The international programme is organized by the School of Engineering and the School of Chemical Engineering in cooperation with TU Delft in the Netherlands and RWTH Aachen in Germany.

During the two-year master's programme, students study together in three different universities: Aalto University in Finland, RWTH Aachen in Germany and TU Delft in the Netherlands
