January 25th marked the end of the application period for Aalto master's programmes and for the English-language International Business bachelor's programme taught in Mikkeli. The number of applications for master's degree studies fell slightly compared to last year, with a total of 3355 applications received. For this latest application round, applicants from outside the EU and EEA was 40 percent, compared to 56 percent in 2016. The amount of the other than Finnish applicants from EU/EEA area increased from the last year by about 23 percentage.

Additionally, a total of 714 applications were received for the bachelor's programme in Mikkeli, which was 16 percent less than for the previous application round.  A total of 25 percent of applicants are citizens of countries outside the EU and EEA. There were applications from 67 different countries.

‘The drop in applicants from outside the EU/EEA countries was actually less than we expected. Our goal is to continue to be an international environment and to attract the best students to our university’, said Vice President for Education Eero Eloranta.

Starting from August 2017, course fees have been applied to applicants from outside the EU and EEA for studies leading to a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Annual tuition fees for currently €15 000 for Aalto master's programmes and €12 000 for the Mikkeli bachelor's programme. Those students liable to pay tuition fees may, if desired, apply for grants from the Aalto University scholarship programme.

This year there were 77 different subjects to choose from, spread across the fields of business and economics, art and design, and technology. The majority of master's programmes are taught in English.

This last application round gathered applications for the English-language bachelor's programme as well as applications for two-year master's programmes based on a completed bachelor's degree or equivalent studies. The students approved for the bachelor's programme also receive a direct right to subsequently study for a master's degree. The application period for Finnish- and Swedish-language bachelor's programme is from 15 March to 5 April 2017.

The results for the master’s programme admission process will be published on 5 April 2017, and the results for the Mikkeli’s bachelor's programme will be published on 30 June 2017.
