Apply for grants from the Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund - deadline 31 January 2024

Grants will be admitted in recognition of studies completed either in the field of bridge engineering or in the field of structural engineering and building physics, or as support for postgraduate studies in these fields.

The grant committee for the Aalto University鈥檚 Fabian ja Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund announces grants that will be admitted in recognition of the studies completed either in the field of bridge engineering or in the field of structural engineering and building physics or as support for postgraduate studies in these fields. The grants range from 1500 euros to 5000 euros. The grants and their values will depend on the number of applicants and the level of applicant鈥檚 studies.

Grant criteria

Eligible grant applicants include Master's degree students and post-graduate students of the School of Engineering at Aalto University as well as persons who recently completed their Master's or postgraduate degrees at Aalto University and familiarized with bridge engineering, structural engineering or building physics in their studies.

Applications

A short free-form application to the grant committee should describe the applicant's specialization in bridge engineering, structural engineering or building physics and the applicant's academic performance as well as the applicant's contact information (name, email address and telephone number). The applicant is asked to mention in the application whether the emphasis of applicant鈥檚 studies has been on 鈥渂ridge engineering鈥 or 鈥渟tructural engineering and building physics鈥. The application must also include the name of the thesis and the name of the thesis supervisor.

The Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund equally supports both the field of bridge engineering and the field of structural engineering and building physics in the long-term. In the assessment of applications, the purpose of the donator of initial capital to promote constructive structural engineering will also be considered.

The grants will be published and awarded in March. Grant recipients will be informed by email.

The Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund awards grants and recognition awards annually to Master's degree students and post-graduate students of the Aalto University School of Engineering as well as persons who recently completed their Master's or postgraduate degrees and familiarized with bridge engineering or structural engineering and building physics in their studies at Aalto University.
