ABB and Konecranes speed up the Industrial Internet Campus

Aalto University Industrial Internet Campus fosters multidisciplinary research, education and innovation together with industrial partners. Now two major industrial companies, ABB and Konecranes, speed up the campus operations by supplying equipment and systems with open interfaces. These will be available for Aalto University's researchers and students as well as other companies.
ABB has provided the campus with motors for the test bench of magnetic bearings, frequency converters to control the rotation speed of motors and a monitoring system. Measurement data produced by the smart products will be compiled utilizing ABB's data management software. This information is significant for developing activities and new innovations.

Co-innovation spirit
Konecranes will provide the campus with a smart CXT NEO-based crane in the autumn of 2016. The crane will be equipped with TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring technology, which enables large Industrial Internet ecosystem integration and further full-scale research and innovation work.

'Opening crane data interfaces to researchers and other developers enables innovations that, in the long run, will benefit everybody in the ecosystem'.
The research on ABB equipment will focus on e.g. the remote control over 5G network and the backup systems of the magnetic bearings. The research topics for the Konecranes smart crane are related to the utilisation of the sensor and maintenance data in product design and testing as well as interoperability with other manufacturers’ equipment.
