Aalto University’s art & design continues to excel as 6th in the world
QS World University Rankings published its field-specific rankings for 2022 on 6 April. The rankings cover 51 academic fields and over 1500 universities around the world.
In the field of art & design, Aalto University maintained its excellence as 6th in the world.
’Art and design can open novel perspectives on and solutions to the world’s grand challenges. It’s exciting to be ranked among the best in the world in this area. A big thanks belongs to our entire community', says Tuomas Auvinen, dean of the Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture.
In the field of architecture and built environment, Aalto kept its spot in the top 50, ranking 42nd, as it did last year.
Aalto University broke into the top 100 in the fields of business and management studies, where its ranking was 74 (71 last year); computer science & information systems, where it ranked 84th (96th); electrical & electronic engineering, ranked 97th (79th); and materials science, ranked 95th (98th).
Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology shared the status of world’s best university, each ranking first globally in twelve fields.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject emphasise the university's reputation both in the world of academia and among employers, as well as research publications and citation numbers. The weighting of these different factors in the results varies between fields.
The QS World University Rankings also compare universities as a whole, and Aalto ranked 112th in the latest QS overall ranking, published last year.
Aalto University specialises in technology, business studies and art, and thus the most relevant rankings for Aalto are field- and subject-specific. Depending on the criteria used, there are between 17 000 and 22 000 universities in the world.
