BA graduates Anna Isoniemi and Linda Kokkonen are competing with women’s collections and MA graduate Antonina Sedakova's collection is designed for men. A total of 300 fashion designers from more than 60 countries participated in the fashion competition.

"In the final, we see very different collections from primitively powerful material manipulation into glitter and painted collections. Our students' intensity to focus on their collections is strong and they see competitive participation as an important part of their studies", says Professor of Fashion Pirjo Hirvonen from Aalto University.

In recent years, the students of Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture have been highly recognized for their work, winning the first prizes of Hyéres in 2012 and 2013. Last year Maria Korkeila won the Schiaparelli Prize and in 2016 Hanne Jurmu and Anton Vartiainen won the Chloé Prize and received the jury's special mention.

The annual Festival International de Mode & de Photographie Hyères competition is one of the world's most prestigious design competitions. The jury is led by fashion designer Haider Ackermann and includes, among others, fashion historian Farid Chenoune and actor Tilda Swinton. The event has been held at the famous Villa Noailles in Hyères on the French Riviera since the beginning of the 1980s.
