Aalto strong in industry income and patents in Times Higher Education ranking
Aalto University has again placed between 201 and 250 in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking. Aalto’s strongest area was industry, the category in which the university’s ability to attract funding from companies and the number of patents are considered.
This general ranking measures universities’ success according to 13 indicators related to international outlook, research, citations, teaching and industry income.
The ranking includes 1 900 universities across 108 countries. For the eigth year in a row, the University of Oxford leads the ranking in first place.
The Times Higher Education also publishes a ranking list of young universities. In the listing published last summer, Aalto University was placed 40th among universities under 50 of age.
For a university like Aalto, which specialises in technology as well as business and arts, general rankings may be less relevant than rankings by field or subject which the Times Higher Education is expected to release later this year.
