Academic decision-making
The primary body for academic issues is the Academic Committee for Engineering. Select academic matters are also handled by the school's doctoral programme committee and degree programme committees, in accordance with school bylaws.
The Academic Committee for Engineering approves curricula and degree requirements (delegated by the University Academic Affairs Committee) for the School of Engineering. The committee submits proposals on school-specific degree requirements and admissions criteria and on other matters related to academic activities and performs other tasks assigned by the dean and the University Academic Affairs Committee.
The Doctoral Programme Committee of the School of Engineering is responsible for administering the Doctoral Programme in Engineering. The committee's duties include the development of course contents, student selection as well as key elements of the dissertation process: the approval of topics, appointment of examiners and grading of finished works.
The duties of the School of Engineering Degree Programme Committee cover the administrative tasks related to degree education, including the evaluation and approval of master's theses, decisions on degree programme development as well as quality assurance and feedback processing. The degree programme committee also prepares proposals for the Academic Committee for Engineering regarding degree programme curricula, degree requirements and admission criteria.

Preparation for decision-making
These bodies participate in the governance of the school by preparing matters for decision-making bodies. Examples include the management teams of the school and its departments and the school's tenure track committee.
The School of Engineering Management Team discusses operative matters and prepares issues for decision-making.
The working group assists the dean in allocating funds appropriated for the school.
The ICT Group works to ensure IT services at the School of Engineering and serves as the link between the school and Aalto IT Services.
Decision-making support
The school regularly seeks advice on strategic development from external parties through the Scientific Advisory Board and the Stakeholder Advisory Board.
Scientific Advisory Board
The SAB monitors and support the school's research and education activities, to give suggestions for the school's future direction and development and to assess the effects of past development measures.
Stakeholder Advisory Board
The Stakeholder Advisory Board helps the school maintain the relevance of its research and education for society at large.
Rules and regulations
The primary rules for the school's governance are outlined in the bylaws of Aalto University and the bylaws of the School of Engineering. Basic rules for everyday activity in Aalto University are assembled in the university's Code of Conduct.

Apply to EIT Urban Mobility Specialist Innovation Call (1st Cut-Off DL 23 Sept 2025)
EIT Urban Mobility’s Strategic Innovation Open Call 2026-2028 just launched! The total estimated funding allocated to this Call is 60 million EUR for 3 years. The Call has multiple cut-off dates The indicative funding for the first submission cut-off is: 9 million EUR. Each project may receive up to 2 million EUR of EIT funding. EIT Urban Mobility will reimburse up to 65% of the eligible project costs, while the minimum co-funding rate for all proposals is 35%.
