Recent Advances and Research Trends in AI, Energy & Industry (Online Lecture Series)
Delivered by distinguished professors from across Europe, the Unite! Doctoral School has organised a series of specialised online lectures focusing on artificial intelligence, energy, and Industry 4.0. To learn more about each module and to register, see the descriptions below. Aalto doctoral students are eligible for 1 ECTS per completed module.
Recent Advances and Research Trends in Artificial Intelligence
This module explores the internal mechanics of modern systems: from optimisation and advanced reasoning methods to error detection and machine learning under data-constrained conditions. It is designed for those seeking to understand AI beyond a purely functional, tool-based level. Key topics include combinatorial optimisation and the shift from intuitive methods to precise models based on variable relationship analysis, as well as learning protocols for limited datasets.

Recent Advances and Research Trends in Energy
This module is intended for those who wish to understand the energy transition not merely as a concept, but as a tangible and complex engineering process. The lectures provide an overview of key low-emission solutions鈥攕uch as solar and wind energy, hydrogen, energy storage, and nuclear power鈥攚ith a focus on their integration into complex systems. Participants will also examine the role of system flexibility, infrastructural constraints, and socio-economic drivers. Furthermore, the program covers cryogenic technologies utilised in future energy systems and the challenges facing global energy supply chains, specifically within the context of Arctic regions.

Recent Advances and Research Trends in Industry 4.0
The Industry module focuses on the practical dimensions of Industry 4.0 and modern manufacturing systems. The curriculum includes topics related to additive manufacturing 鈥搑anging from novel processes and materials to applications in high-demand sectors such as aviation and aerospace. Participants will explore real-world implementations of Industry 4.0 solutions, including the use of advanced data and signal analysis for machine condition monitoring and fault detection. A core component of the course is AI-based decision support systems used in production planning, inventory management, and supply chain coordination.
