Incoming exchange students to the schools of technology
Step by step
- Contact your home university's international office for information on your university's internal application procedure. Your home university nominates the candidates for exchange by sending a nomination to the Aalto school they have an agreement with. Nomination from your home university is not yet the final admission decision, that is made by Aalto University after processing the application you submit 色色啦.
- Aalto exchange coordinator will send the link to the online application to the nominated students.
-
Fill in the online application form and submit it by the deadline with all the required documents attached.
It's important that you only submit one online application form. If there is a problem with the form or you notice that you've made a mistake, please contact the exchange coordinator of the Aalto school you have applied to instead of submitting a new application.
- Your Learning Agreement/Study Plan will be checked only in the Aalto school that you have applied to. You may be asked to make changes to your course choices either before or after you are accepted for exchange by Aalto University.
-
The electronic Letter of Admission (or rejection letter) will be sent to you by email from the application system Moveon within six weeks after the application deadline. If you have not received any information by that time, please contact the exchange coordinator at the Aalto school you applied to.
When you have received the Letter of Admission, please inform the coordinator at your home university about the decision (following the instructions of your home university).
You must attach the following documents to the online application

- Erasmus+ students should use the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement form provided by their home university or print their Online Learning Agreement as pdf.
- All other exchange students can use their home university鈥檚 form or the Aalto study plan template found below (pdf)
- Confirmation of your English language skills:
- an official test certificate (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge, German Abitur, DAAD, OLS)
- or a statement by an English language teacher, other professor or exchange coordinator stating that your English skills are equivalent to at least B2 on the to study in your subject area

- Curriculum Vitae in English
- Copy of passport or ID card
Make sure that the file names only include latin alphabet and no special characters.
Aalto University Schools of Technology require at least two to three years of Bachelor's studies before exchange as most of the courses taught in English are on Master level. Bachelor level students are allowed to select Master level courses as long as they fulfill the course specific prerequisites.
Please read both the general Studies page and the school-specific Studies page before making your study plan. Study Plan/Learning Agreement is preliminary and you need to be prepared to make changes, if necessary. It's important to write also the course codes in the Study Plan/Learning Agreement.
You should follow the instructions of the school you intend to study at Aalto. Please read the instructions on how to choose your courses:
- Studies at the School of Chemical Engineering
- Studies at the School of Electrical Engineering
- Studies at the School of Engineering
- Studies at the School of Science
We do not necessarily need the signatures from your home university in the application stage, if you have trouble getting them. You are however responsible for making sure that your home university approves your course choices.
Your Aalto exchange coordinator will sign your Study Plan/Learning Agreement after you have been accepted by Aalto University. We will send the signed copy with comments on your course choices to you after the admission decision has been made.
The full study load for Aalto University degree students is 30 ECTS /term, please prepare your plan for approximately this number of credits. Remember to keep in mind the instructions and restrictions regarding choosing courses of your Aalto school.
