Doctoral Speed mentoring
Doctoral Speed Mentoring is a new service that aims to offer Aalto University's doctoral students opportunities for networking, discussing career paths for PhDs, and getting acquainted with the working life in Finland. For employers, the meetings provide a chance to meet our PhDs and to be recognized by them as a significant employer. The Doctoral Speed Mentoring is available for all doctoral students at Aalto University. During the two-hour session, one representative-mentor from an organization meets with four doctoral students (25 minutes per student). Doctoral mentoring is offered in both Finnish and English.
For Employers
The Doctoral Speed Mentoring is not a recruitment event, but it is certainly a good opportunity to develop a positive employer image and network with our PhDs. The Speed Mentoring provides an opportunity to discuss about the company needs and potential collaboration opportunities, however the discussion is ultimately guided by the student's preferences. Participants in the speed mentoring should ideally be closely involved with the company's research and development projects, have substantial knowledge about the organization's career opportunities for PhDs, or themselves have a doctoral degree. We hope for a brief introduction from participants so that students can choose an appropriate mentor.
Employers also gain additional visibility by participating in the speed mentoring, as the Aalto University Doctoral Researchers Association also promotes these mentoring opportunities in their channels. Thus, by engaging in the speed mentoring, employers can achieve broad visibility within Aalto University as a potential employer for doctoral students.
For students
In Doctoral Speed Mentoring, the students have an opportunity to get to know relevant employers in their field and explore career opportunities after studies. The speed mentoring session can serve as an introduction to the company or a discussion about collaboration opportunities either during or after studies. The speed mentoring can also be used for other questions that match the mentor's profile. The agenda for the meeting is open, and the student's preferences guide the discussion. However, mentoring is not a recruitment event, meaning the meeting is more focused on networking rather than direct recruitment.
The full name, job title, email address and a short introduction of the mentor participating in the Doctoral Speed Mentoring is required. You can also provide a link to the LinkedIn profile.
We hope that the students could guide the discussion. They might like to discuss about job opportunities, work life in Finland, collaboration opportunities or just networking.
