Open access agreements
Take advantage of the open access agreements with publishers! Under the agreements, Aalto affiliated corresponding authors can publish their articles without open access fees (APC fee) or get discounts on them.

Key criteria for utilizing open access agreements
- You are the corresponding author of the article, i.e. you submit the manuscript and communicate with the publisher through the peer review process.
- You are affiliated with Aalto University, ie. you are a researcher, doctoral student or other staff member of Aalto University, and your affiliation with Aalto is clearly stated in the article.
- You use your Aalto email when submitting the manuscript and choose Aalto University as your organization, because the identification is based on these.
Discounts for open access fees
Open access agreements provide two types of discounts for open access fees (APC fees):
- Open access fee is fully covered by the open access agreement. The fee will be waived upon acceptance of the article.
- 15 % discount on open access fee is provided. Publisher sends an invoice where the discount is applied. Please consult your department controllers in advance regarding the fee. Research Services do not process invoices.
Important information
- Agreements cover open access fees (APC fees), but not additional color or page charges.
- Most publishers have a shared article quota of open access articles for , and quotas may run out.
- All the journals of a publisher may not be covered by the agreements. Please check the detailed journal lists.
- Aalto University does not have a central open access fund. If you publish in a journal which is not covered by our open access agreements, or only a discount is provided, please consult your department controllers in advance regarding the fee. Research Services do not process invoices.
- Agreements are always fixed-term and FinELib consortium negotiates on renewal of the agreements with publishers.

- Author's Accepted Manuscript (AAM) can be self-archived without an embargo and with CC BY license in your institutional repository in following journals: Science, Science Immunology, Science Robotics, Science Signaling, Science Translational Medicine.

- 15% discount on APC fee in Science Advances. For the payment of the rest of the fee, please consult your department.
