Network home directory and redirection on classroom Macs

On classroom Macs and computers for public use (the log-in screen says Public), such as in classroom D at Maari Building, users’ home directories are located on the home.org.aalto.fi network disk.

On classroom Macs and computers for public use (the log-in screen says Public) users’ home directories are located on the home.org.aalto.fi network disk.

Since some Mac programs do not support this solution, some parts of the home directory tree have directed to local disks on computers by means of symbolic links.

At the moment (information last updated on 8 February 2018), the following branches of the home directory are directed to a local disk, under /l/redirections/user ID/:

"Google Drive"

"Library/Accounts"

"Library/Caches"

"Library/Calendars"

"Library/Containers"

"Library/Developer/CoreSimulator"

"Library/Developer/Shared"

"Library/Developer/Xcode"

"Pictures/Lightroom"

Redirection is made with a script that is run during log-in.

Please note that files saved in the directories mentioned above are not backed up, and their contents are not transferred if the user changes from one computer to the next.
