Career monitoring surveys

Aalto University School of Business Career Services follows the labour market situation of our master's degree graduates one year after graduation and career development five years after graduation. 

Career monitoring is conducted as a part of a national survey on academic graduates with the Aarresaari Career Services network representing 13 Finnish universities. The national results of the career monitoring are publicly available on the Ministry of Education and Culture's  as a PowerBI report, where the results of last year's survey will be published next spring. From , you’ll find also other information about the placement after graduation.

The placement career survey one year after the graduation is our own survey for master's graduates, and most of the information on this page is based on data from this survey. The information on this page comes from our masters' who graduated in 2020 (respondents to the career monitoring survey in fall 2025, response rate 36%) or in 2024 (respondents to the placement career survey in fall 2025, response rate 34%).

Graduate profile

Of all master's graduates in 2024 49% were female and 51 % male. Of the graduates 13% were international.

The studies provided me with valuable knowledge, practical skills, and a broad perspective that I know will be highly useful in my future career.

Many graduates who responded to the placement survey one year after graduation stated that their work is meaningful in many ways. The meaningfulness of the work is enhanced by the ability to positively impact others or help other people. Meaningfulness is also increased by learning new things, personal growth and development, appreciation of work, and responsibility, as well as the diversity and variability of tasks. Working in a field that graduates are passionate about, combined with the ability to help others grow, makes their work meaningful.

Many of the respondents felt that when the work is meaningful for the company, environment and society, it gives meaning to their own work, too.

They are also very happy with their degree in the terms of employment. They would also recommend the studies and say that the employers value the degree.

Of our students, 75% found employment before graduation

According to the placement survey, 75% of our students found employment before completing their studies.

One year after the graduation 90% of graduates were employed or were entrepreneurs, 3% had full-time doctorate studies and 1% other full-time studies. 4% of the respondents were unemployed. 2% responded their situation to be something else.

Most graduates work in companies

Majority of the graduates of Aalto University School of Business find employment in large (57%) and small & medium sized (22%) companies. Graduates get employment also from universities (6%), state (3%), municipalities (3%), non-profit organizations (2%), and 3% employ themselves. 2% responded something else, 2% did not answer. Most popular industries and the salary

School of Business graduates are employed in a wide range of industries. The most popular industries include consultancy (21%), finance (13%) and public sector (universities, state, municipalities) (9%).

Social media is the most popular channel for job search

For our graduates, the most popular channels to find employment are social media (e.g. LinkedIn) (49%), job portals (e.g. Duunitori) (31 %) or organizations' own websites (26%). However, graduates use many ways to find the employment.

Most important skills in working life

The top ten skills the respondents need the most in their current job, according to results of the career monitoring survey conducted five years after graduation in 2025, are presented below in the order of the importance.

Learning new things continues after graduation

Aalto graduates’ transition to working life and their experience of studies and careers are monitored annually through a career monitoring survey. The responses to the survey provide important information about the work life of graduates, both for current students and for young people considering their future studies. In addition, the information collected is used to develop Aalto University’s teaching and services.
