Careers of Master's degree graduates are closely monitored after graduation
Aalto University School of Business Career Services follows the labour market situation of our master's degree graduates one year after graduation and career development five years after graduation. Most information on this page is based on a placement survey one year after graduation for students who graduated in 2024, which had 21 respondents. In addition, there is information from five-year career monitoring survey for 2020 graduates, which had 22 respondents.
Finance graduates' satisfaction with the degree
Finance graduates from Aalto University School of Business are satisfied with their degree. Based on the survey conducted by School of Business Career Services, 95% of the finance graduates are satisfied with the degree in terms of employment and 100% would recommend the studies to others. 95% of the respondents agree that employers value the degree. 95% of respondents agree that the studies equipped them sufficiently for working life.
The first employment after graduation
By first employment we mean the employment that started before the graduation and continued after the graduation, started around the time of graduation or the first employment that started after graduation. 81% of graduates had a job before graduation and 19% found a job after graduation.
Main ways for the graduates to find one's first employment
According to respondents of a one-year placement survey the four main channels for finding the first job were social media (e.g. LinkedIn), Aalto Finance email list, personal network, organization's own website and recruiting company's website.
Respondents listed many other important channels that helped them to find their first job such as
• employer visit during studies
• other career portals (e.g. Duunitori)
• previous employment
• contacted the employer directly (e.g. submitted an open application)
Factors that most helped graduates to find one's first employment
The four most important factors helping graduates to find their first employment were ability to tell people about your skills, combination of subjects in your degree, internship in Finland and other work experience.
In addition, graduates listed many other important factors such as
• exchange studies abroad
• experience relating to organizational work or hobbies
• other studies or training (not part of the degree you completed)
• internship abroad
Valuable skills and competences in current position
According to five-year career monitoring survey respondents, the four most important skills in current position are ability to learn and adopt new things, communication in English, stress tolerance and analytical and systematic thinking skills.
Respondents listed many additional important skills such as problem-solving skills, self-direction or taking initiative, knowledge of the basics of business and financial administration, information retrieval skills and organizational and coordination skills.
Monthly gross salary
The average monthly gross salary one year after graduation was 5671 euros and median was 4950 euros. 5 years after graduation the average salary was 8548 euros and median was 7200 euros.
Current principal employment of the graduates
Among graduates of the Master's program in Finance, 62% work in large companies, while 31% are employed by small and medium-sized enterprises. Additionally, 7% work in the public sector or as entrepreneurs.
The most common industry of their current employer is consulting, which employs 35% of survey respondents. Finance employs 31% of respondents. Other industries include energy, technology, healthcare, industry, the public sector, and law.
