About Me
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Aalto University. Before joining Aalto, I worked as a Digital Futures postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University in Sweden, after completing my Ph.D. at Indraprashtha Institue of Information Technology Delhi, India.
I work in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) and interaction design for health and wellbeing. I design and develop user-centred technologies that help people gain a better understanding of their bodies and health. My work focuses on people’s lived experiences of health—how they understand their bodies as they move across life stages, and how they navigate the sociocultural contexts that shape their capacity to attend to their bodily well-being.
Much of my work has focused on women’s health across diverse global contexts. I have extensively worked on maternal and child health, breastfeeding, and intimate health. My research on improving training and learning opportunities for grassroots women volunteer community health workers, known as ASHAs, in India received the Grand Challenges Award (Round 20) from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
My current work focuses on designing new interactions with wearables or garments to improve bodily expression, movement and awareness. It explores questions related to designing for body postures and rhythms at the intersection of soft robotics, machine learning and soma design for health.
