What is radical creativity? The recent film offers various interpretations

The film "Radical Creatives" expands our understanding of creativity and explores Aalto's culture in a compelling way. The film also aims to initiate a dialogue on the significance of creativity for organisations and society.

What is creativity? How are uncertain and seemingly impossible projects carried forward? Radical Creatives documentary film is an exploration of individuals who are challenging the status quo.

The documentary film includes interviews with researchers, teachers, and students from all of Aalto University's schools. Our alum, Emilia Hernesniemi has directed it.

The film provides examples of what creativity looks like in research, teaching, learning, and entrepreneurship. It also explores how fundamental interdisciplinary transformations can begin.

Creative practices are often unrecognised

The stories in the one-hour film "Radical Creatives" are intertwined by the pursuit of purpose and the supportive community in the midst of uncertainty.

The film dives into the diverse experiences of individuals unravelling their passions and creative potential. Representing predominantly the Aalto community and our alumni, the film unveils a culture that embraces experimentation, encourages taking risks, and wholeheartedly embraces the power of creativity.

The documentary explores how creativity is experienced, how it is taught, and how interdisciplinary collaboration works.

With this movie, we aim to spark a societal discussion about creativity. When creativity is combined with trust and respect for diversity, its transformative power shows at the level of teams, organisations, and society as a whole. This is when we can speak of radical creativity that truly changes the world.

Radical creativity is one of the three cross-cutting approaches in the Aalto University's strategy. Aalto University and production agency Ääri have produced the movie.
