Two unique exhibitions by Aalto University at the Oodi Library to experience and play

The Finnish EU presidency is now in full swing and for September (when the EU level AV conference will take place), Aalto is offering two very different exhibitions to be on display at the Oodi library in Helsinki.

The exhibitions will take place within the immersive walls of the Kuutio space on the second floor of Oodi with its smart glass walls giving even more dimension to the exhibits.

First up will be Interactive Diorama - Rembrandt 1632, by Professor Lily Diaz-Kommonen and her team. It’s a virtual reality simulation that takes the visitor deep into a painting by Rembrandt from the 1600s, transcending the 3D dimension. The artwork has been converted into an interactive diorama of what was reputedly the first meeting of its kind at the Barber’s Surgeon Guild of Amsterdam in 1632. The anatomy lesson was to become a kind of spectacle for the public to attend, and in this experience, you are the subject, and all from the safety of your own reality.

The Kuutio space barely has a chance to breathe before  Games, Art and Science sets up. The exhibition is curated by executive in residence, Annakaisa Kultima, and it’s a chance for Aalto students and researchers, in collaboration with artists and scientists from Finland and abroad, to show everyone what they’ve been up to of recent. The games: Global Warning, Sky Beneath, Hamsterwave, Plusminus, Quantum Garden will showcase the intersection of art and science in wildly different ways.
