Paul Rintamäki, who graduated with a master's degree in business and economics, is the recipient of this year's Björn Savén Finnish American Scholarship for postgraduate studies at an American university. The scholarship will support Rintamäki as a visiting doctoral student at Columbia Business School in New York. The scholarship is worth EUR 35,000.

Rintamäki, who is from Helsinki has been invited to the doctoral programme of Columbia Business School as a visiting student for the 2022–23 academic year. ‘A year at a leading post graduate programme and networking with the American scientific community provide a good foundation for my doctoral thesis focusing on finance and the macro-economy, where I handle financial issues affecting households as well as professional investors. Together with my supervising professor at Columbia I will primarily focus on friction factors affecting finance. Columbia University is an excellent place to get advice and comments to deepen my research,’ says Rintamäki, who will soon be travelling to the United States.

Björn Savén, a Swede, established the scholarship in 2001 with the express purpose of supporting the studies of talented Finnish graduate students in the best universities in the United States. According to Björn Savén, further studies at leading universities in the United States expand the scientific and career possibilities of Finns. Savén has long been a supporter of Aalto University. He has backed the university ever since it was founded. Last year he helped fund Aalto's hydrogen research for the storage of renewable energy.

Björn Savén's US scholarship is administered by SAM, the League of Finnish-American Societies.
