Safe and healthy walking: A theory driven cross cultural comparison study

Researchers at the Department of Built Environment of Aalto University are conducting a survey on safe and healthy walking in Helsinki Metropolitan Area in collaboration with the Queensland University of Technology. The purpose of this research project is to undertake a cross-cultural comparison of the perceived risk involved in walking near or crossing roads when using a smart phone or when affected by alcohol. This research also seeks to understand perceptions about air pollution when walking near busy roads. Seventeen countries are involved in this cross-cultural comparison study.

Please see below the invitation letter to participate in the survey. More information about the survey is provided on the survey page. Anyone living in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, aged over 18, and having access to a smartphone or computer with internet access can participate in the survey.

Dear resident of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area,

You are invited to participate in this research project if you are aged over 18 and have access to a smart phone or computer with internet access. The purpose of this research project is to undertake a cross-cultural comparison of the perceived risk involved in walking near or crossing roads when using a smart phone or when affected by alcohol. We are also interested in your perceptions about air pollution when walking near busy roads.

The principal investigator Oscar Oviedo, research associate at Queensland University of Technology, leads the project. Samira Ramezani and Tiina Laatikainen, post-doctoral researchers at Aalto University, lead the study in Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

The survey is voluntary and anonymous. Please refer to to complete the online survey. Participation should take less than 20 minutes of your time.
