Professor Valeriy Vyatkin, Aalto University Department Automation and Electrical Engineering, has been named an IEEE Fellow active from January 2022.

Professor Vyatkin is being recognised for contributions to software development methods and practices in industrial automation.

‘In my case, the last two decades of my research I have been dealing with a technology whose practical application in the industry was not certain due to its too advanced level compared with the state of the art. This Fellow elevation happens at the same time as the technology gets seriously picked up and used by the world’s leading companies. This feels especially great!’ he says.

Professor Vyatkin points out that he couldn’t have done his research alone.

‘This would not be possible without the hard work of many collaborators, including my doctoral and master students, who ‘risked their life’ by selecting such a novel research area with unclear prospects of success. I am much in debt to them for their trust and talent. Special thanks go ɫɫÀ² University and funding agencies having supported our research!’

With over 400,000 members, is the world’s largest association for technical professionals. The IEEE Fellowship is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed 0.01% of the total voting membership.
