Professor Risto Kosonen emphasises the role of buildings in stopping climate change

'Heating, ventilation and air conditioning have a significant impact on our health and wellbeing as well,' he says in his installation talk.

Risto Kosonen was appointed as an associate professor with tenure in the field of HVAC technology at the Aalto University Department of Mechanical Engineering on 1 September 2020. Before this appointment, he had held an adjunct professor's position since 2013 while also serving as the director of Halton Technology Center. Kosonen studies the energy efficiency of buildings, smart energy systems and indoor climate conditions. 

He has a wealth of experience in the spheres of business and international co-operation. Kosonen began at Halton Oy in 1998, working primarily with product and solution development as well as engaging in international technology co-operation between industry and universities. 

Kosonen completed his Master of Science in Technology degree in the Lappeenranta University of Technology and his Doctor of Science in Technology at Helsinki University of Technology in 2006. He has previously served as a fixed-term professor of energy technology in Helsinki University of Technology in 1986–1988.
