Kedge awards Professor Schouten for outstanding research contribution

The prize recognizes Schouten’s ethnographic research on subcultures of consumption for its exceptional impact 20 years after original publication.

Professor John Schouten has been awarded the 2015 Kedge Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Management Research, an acknowledgement honoring influential research 20 years after its original publication. The prize is given out by Kedge Business School and considers research across all business disciplines.

Schouten receives the prize for his and James McAlexander’s ethnographic study ”Subcultures of Consumption: An Ethnography of the New Bikers”, which introduced the subculture of consumption as an analytical category to consumer research. The research was published in 1995 in Journal of Consumer Research, a premier outlet Financial Times lists among the 45 most valued academic journals. Until today, the article has been cited more than 1720 times according to the Google Scholar Citation Index.

The award ceremony will take place in December 2015, at the Kedge Campus in Paris. Kedge Business School was founded in 1874 and is the largest business school in France.
