FEMME IN STEM artwork visualises technological development

University-wide art studies inspired Aalto people to combine art-based activities across the boundaries of science. FEMME IN STEM was selected as the winner of the Women and Technology media work competition.
Open for everyone, the competition sought for a video, animation, game or other media work, highlighting women's participation, competence and role model in technology or natural sciences. In the competition, emphasis was also placed on bringing forth the general attractiveness of technology and cooperation between technology, economy and art. The prizes were awarded from the Marja-Terttu Tanttinen Fund, and the decision on the winners was made by the Dean and Committee of the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering.
‘FEMME IN STEM’, designed by Sofia Schleutker and Janne Kuisma, students from the Degree Programme in Visual Communications Design, was selected as the winner. The work visualises the general significance of diversity in technological development, thus highlighting the role of women and equality in the field of technology and natural sciences.
A video by Maria Lindqvist and a memory game created by Aura Kiiskinen and Ella Huttunen received an honourable mention.
Congratulations to the winners!
