ERC Proof of Concept to Mikko Möttönen
Docent Mikko Möttönen, leader of CQD Labs, has been awarded with the European Research Council’s Proof of Concept Grant to develop his microwave detector towards commercial applications. Physics Review Letters recently published a scientific article about .
“In the new ERC grant, we will make the detector more user friendly. It would be great to make it available for a large group of users”, says Möttönen.
Microwaves are currently used in mobile phone communications and satellite televisions. More sensitive microwave detectors may lead to great improvements of the present communication systems and measurement techniques. Besides communication systems the new detector could be used as a measurement device in the emerging superconducting quantum computer.
This is Möttönen’s third ERC grant. Previously he has been awarded with the Starting Grant and Consolidator Grant. The scheme is open to ERC grant holders only and the grant can be used, for example, to establish intellectual property rights, investigate business opportunities or conduct technical validation.
