Tiina Mikkonen, studying for MSc in Corporate Communication at the School of Business, received a Jane K Klausman Women in Business scholarship from Zonta International District 20. The scholarship is worth $2,000. The District 20 is made up of Zonta Clubs in Finland and Estonia. After the first selection phase and prior to receiving the $2000 scholarship, she had already received a 500 EUR scholarship from Zonta Club of Helsinki. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarships are awarded to women who study business or business-related subjects and have demonstrated significant talent in the field.

“Receiving this scholarship demonstrates to me that hard work is rewarded. My two previous jobs have been the result of my accomplishments. My last job in a bank came about when I achieved the highest scores on the General Securities qualification (APV1) and the Investment Adviser qualification (APV2) examinations in Finland. The bank’s representative was present at the graduation ceremony for the Investment Adviser qualification and they offered me a job”, Tiina Mikkonen said.

Excellent grades, a job as an investment expert and guest lectures

Tiina Mikkonen has demonstrated the required talent with good grades, her career in the field of investment and holding guest lectures at her former educational institution Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Her minor subject at the School of Business is finance, which she also studied at Metropolia.

“I have always been pretty pedantic in my studies and I work hard to continuously learn new things. I have so far studied 13 courses at the School of Business and have got excellent grades on them. Additionally, after my last degree I have been working in a bank as an investment expert for about 7 years, which probably was also a consideration for my commercial capability,” said Tiina Mikkonen. 

Tiina Mikkonen also says that few times a year she has been a guest lecturer at the Metropolia's finance courses. She spoke to the students about investment products, their sales and marketing, and more recently about the communication and strategy of selling investment services. In addition, Tiina says she has participated in Metropolia's alumni activities by talking to students about the work of an investment expert.

The first Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarships were awarded in 1998 to women studying business-related degrees with career goals in management. The scholarship was established by a bequest from Jane M. Klausman. During her career Jane M. Klausman worked as Zonta International Parliamentarian from 1990 to 1995, as well as a professional secretary, parliamentarian and an entrepreneur.
