Anna Valtonen appointed Vice President of Art and creative practices

Valtonen will also continue as full-time Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

As part-time Vice President, starting from 15 October 2015, Anna Valtonen is responsible for art and creative practices in the whole Aalto University.

– Arts, design and architecture are an important part of the multidisciplinary Aalto. With the appointment of the Vice President, we wanted to bring these fields to a stronger and more visible role at university level. Anna's background and diverse competence are excellent assets in the position of Vice President, says Provost of Aalto University Ilkka Niemelä

Valtonen was a member of the Aalto University Board in 2008–2014. She was appointed dean of the School Arts, Design and Architecture in April 2014. Valtonen is also a board member in Aarhus School of Architecture. Before Aalto University was the Rector of the Umeå Institute of Design at Umeå University. In 2007, Valtonen was awarded her doctorate in Art and Design in the School of Art and Design, where she has also been a researcher and a board member. In 1997–2009, Valtonen worked in different positions at Nokia, the last one being Head of Design Research & Foresight.
