All My Mom’s Phone Calls is the best short film

For the second time in a row, the Jussi Award for Best Short Film was awarded to a film by an Aalto University graduate.

The best of Finnish cinema was celebrated at the Jussi Awards last Friday. Director Iiti Yli-Harja won the Jussi Award for the best Finnish short film for her film All My Mom's Phone Calls (Kaikki äitini puhelut). Yli-Harja is a graduate of the Department of Film at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and the film's editor Lyydia Mäkipää is a current student studying film editing. Last year the same prize went to Emilia Hernesniemi's short film Goodbye Tornio.

Among the Jussi Award winners were several former and current members of the Aalto University Department of Film (ELO). The following alumni received a Jussi Award:

Best Film: director Alli Haapasalo, producer Elina Pohjola - Girls Girls Girls (Tytöt tytöt tytöt). 

Best Director: Alli Haapasalo - Girls Girls Girls

Best script: Ilona Ahti and Daniela Hakulinen – Girls Girls Girls

Best Editing: Editor Samu Heikkilä - Girls Girls Girls 

Best Cinematography: Cinematographer Kerttu Hakkarainen - Heartbeast 

Best Sound Design: Sound designer Jorma Kaulanen - The Woodcutter Story

Best costume design: Tiina Kaukanen - KIKKA!

Best set design: Päivi Kettunen - Hatching. 

In addition, the Nordisk Film prize of €20 000 was awarded to the team of the film Hatching, of which includes ELO alumni.

This year, for the first time, the main and side Jussi prizes were awarded in joint series, combining the women's and men's categories. The Jussi is a Finnish film prize established in 1944.
