1. Accept your admission offer by 10 July 2025 at 3pm/15.00 Finnish time (UTC +3)

Admission results for the English-taught bachelor’s programmes at Aalto University are published at different times depending on the study option and admission group. You will receive an email notification once the results are published.

• In the fields of Science and Technology and Business and Economics, admission results for the SAT and ACT-based selection (Admission groups I and II) are published by 27 March 2025 and for the certificate-based selection (Admission group III) by 28 May 2025.
• Admission results for the Bachelor’s Programme in Design and Media are published by 28 May 2025.

You must accept your admission offer by 10 July 2025 at 3pm/15.00 Finnish time (UTC +3) or you will lose your offer.

You may only be admitted to one study option. If you applied to several study options, your other study options will be automatically cancelled if you are offered a study place to your first (highest ranked) study option preference. 

If you are offered a study place to a lower (second or third) study option preference, you can, once all the admission results É«É«À²â€™s English-taught bachelor’s programmes are published:

• accept the study place conditionally and remain on a waiting list for study options that you have placed higher in the order of preference on the application form. Note that a conditional acceptance of the admission offer cannot be cancelled. If you are admitted off the waiting list to your higher ranked study option, the acceptance of the study place will be transferred to that study option and become binding. If you are not admitted off the waiting list to your higher ranked study option, the conditional acceptance to your lower ranked study option will become binding.
• If you have not already been accepted to a higher ranked study option preference, you can change your conditional acceptance to binding (if it has not changed already).  
• accept the study place bindingly. If you do so and choose not to remain on the waiting list for your higher ranked study options, all other study options will be cancelled.
• decline the study place but remain on a waiting list for higher ranked study options. This happens automatically, if you choose not to accept the admission offer at My Studyinfo.

All admission results É«É«À²â€™s English-taught bachelor’s programmes will be ready by 28 May 2025. Once all the results are ready, you may be admitted off the waiting list. Note that if all study places are filled already, there may not be anyone admitted off the waiting list. Admission from the waiting list ends on 5 August 2025, or earlier if all study places are filled. If you are admitted off the waiting list, the deadline to accept the admission offer is 10 July 2025 at 3pm/15.00 Finnish time (UTC +3) or within 7 days of the admission notification, if you are admitted off the waiting list after 3 July 2025. 

The offer acceptance link will be sent via email from studyinfo.fi. 

• Students with Finnish personal identity code and online banking ID / mobile certificate:

Accept the study place in the service. Follow the instructions in the Studyinfo portal on how to accept the admission offer.

• Students without Finnish personal identity code and online banking ID / mobile certificate:

You will receive an email from the Studyinfo portal with instructions on how to accept the study place. The email includes a personal link to a web page where you can accept the study place.

• Students with a Finnish personal identity code but no Finnish online banking ID / mobile certificate:

If you cannot accept the study place online yourself as you do not have a Finnish online banking ID (but have a Finnish personal ID code), contact Aalto University’s Admission Services. Inform in your email that you cannot accept the study place online yourself. Send the message from the same email address you have used for applying to the university.

You can enrol to the university only after the conditional acceptance of the study place has become binding. You must also have met any possible conditions attached to your admission offer (paid the tuition fee and/or provided your final diploma by the given deadline).

Note that scholarships are study-option-specific and cannot be transferred to another study option. For example, if you were admitted and granted a scholarship to your second study option, the scholarship does not transfer to your first study option if you are admitted off the waiting list. You will lose the scholarship if you do not accept the study place bindingly to your second study option. If you wish to receive the scholarship and begin studies in your second study option, accept the study place bindingly once all admission results are published.

You can only accept one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland. According to the (Universities Act 558/2009) students may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland during one academic term. Accepting an offer of admission is binding; it cannot be cancelled or changed later. If you are offered multiple study places, think carefully which one you wish to accept.

Higher education degrees include bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate and doctoral degrees awarded by universities as well as university of applied sciences degrees. Transfer student applications are exceptions to this provision. The academic terms run from 1 August to 31 December and 1 January to 31 July. Even if the student postpones the commencement of studies, or interrupts their studies, the student cannot accept another study place for a degree programme starting in the same academic term.

If you already have a right to study at Aalto University and you wish to accept a new offer of admission

Aalto University students may only have one right to study towards the same degree. If you accept an offer of admission to education leading to the same degree (for instance, Master of Science (Technology), your previous study right will be replaced by the new one.

Tuition fees and scholarships 

Information regarding the payment of tuition fees and possible scholarships are included in the letter of admission. Please read the instructions carefully.

Degree students who are citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland are generally required to pay tuition fees. The amount of the tuition fee as well as information of possibly awarded scholarship is in the letter of admission.

You can pay the tuition fee after accepting the admission offer bindingly. Please find instructions for paying the tuition fee here. The tuition fee needs to be paid in full before enrolling at the university. We recommend that the tuition fee is paid at the latest by 31 July 2025. If you have any questions related to tuition fees, please contact tuitionfees@aalto.fi.

If you are a new bachelor’s student, you will receive a 25% reduction on the tuition fee for your first academic year if you accept your admission offer as instructed and pay the tuition fee by a specific deadline. The exact deadline for the discounted tuition fee payment depends on your situation, please see the right information below:

• If you are offered a study place to your highest ranked (first) study option preference: you must accept the admission offer and pay the tuition fee within 21 days of the date the university’s acceptance letter was sent to you to receive the 25% reduction. The exact deadline for the discounted payment will be in your acceptance letter.
• If you are offered a study place to a lower (second or third) study option preference: you will receive a separate email in May once all the admission results É«É«À²â€™s English-taught bachelor’s programmes are published. You must accept the admission offer and pay the tuition fee within 21 days of the date the email was sent to you to receive the 25% reduction. The exact deadline for the discounted payment will be in the separate email sent to you in May.
• If you are offered a study place from the waiting list: you must accept the admission offer and pay the tuition fee within 21 days of the date you were admitted off the waiting list to receive the 25% reduction. Please note that the deadline to accept the admission offer might be earlier than the deadline for the discounted tuition fee payment. The exact deadlines will be in your acceptance letter.

The payment of the discounted tuition fee must be received at Aalto University ( on Flywire) within the 21 day time limit, by the specific deadline.

If you have been awarded an Aalto University Excellence Scholarship, the scholarship covers your tuition fee. Please see more information about accepting the scholarship terms further down in the checklist (8. Accept the Aalto University Excellence Scholarship terms).

Non-EU/EEA citizens

If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, you are normally required to have a residence permit in Finland. Read more under Student residence permits and health insurance and go through the  and their .

The application process takes time, so please apply for the residence permit immediately, and start making the arrangements for the compulsory visit to a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate). You need to have a valid residence permit before arriving in Finland and starting your studies.

EU/EEA citizens

EU/EEA citizens do not need a residence permit, but upon arrival in Finland, must register their right of residence. The application for the EU registration must be submitted within three months of the day of arrival, please see .

The application can be submitted online, but the registration process requires a personal visit at the . It is advisable to beforehand (already in the summer), as waiting times can be long and in September there may not be time slots available anymore.

Citizens of Nordic countries

Nordic citizens don't need a residence permit, but upon arrival in Finland, must register their personal data in the Finnish Population Information system. In connection with the registration, you will receive a Finnish personal identity code. More detailed information about the . Please note that you must personally visit DVV for the registration.

After accepting an offer of admission, you have to enrol each academic year as either an attending or a non-attending student.We strongly recommend new students to enrol by 31 July 2025 to ensure a smooth start to their studies. 

All degree students must enrol as either attending or non-attending each academic year. If you do not enrol as either attending or non-attending by the end of the enrolment period (no later than 29 August 2025), you will forfeit your right to study.

Enrolment as an attending student

To enrol as an attending student at Aalto University, login to and use the enrolment service to pay the obligatory of the Aalto University Student Union (AYY). 

• Students without a Finnish personal identity code and Finnish e-identification service (by an online bank or other Finnish service): You have to login to by using the personal link from the email from the portal with which you accepted your study place (email will be sent 27 March onwards and has the subject "Offer of admission in Studyinfo"). The email includes a personal link to My Studyinfo (please see . If you have deleted the email, please contact student services (at studentservices@aalto.fi), the email cannot be sent again and you have to complete your enrolment following instructions from the student services.

If you cannot use the payment methods in the enrolment service of and therefore enrol online, contact the (at studentservices@aalto.fi).

Tuition-fee students must first pay their tuition fee before enrolling in My Studyinfo. Your tuition fee must be received in full by the university before enrolment is possible. You will receive a confirmation email from the university when the payment has been processed and you can continue with enrolment.

To ensure that your student status is valid from the beginning of academic year (1 August) you should enrol no later than 31 July 2025 and sooner if possible. Enrolling as attending is also a precondition for using any Aalto services, getting a student number, and registering for courses.

Enrolment as a non-attending student (i.e. deferring the start of studies)

In your first year of studies you can enrol as a non-attending student i.e. defer the start of your studies) only for reasons referred to in the Universities Act (Yliopistolaki 558/2009, Section 39), that is, if you are:

• In active service referred to in accordance with the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women (194/1995), please note that the possibility to enrol as non-attending in the first year of studies for reasons of active service is valid only for service performed in Finland;
• on leave to take care of your child after birth or adoption;
• unable to start your studies due to a medical condition or injury

Enrol as non-attending in the . You must have one of the reasons mentioned above to enrol as non-attending and you must send a certificate verifying the reason to the university when you enrol as non-attending. 

• Students without Finnish personal identity code and online banking ID: You have to use the personal link from the email you have received from the Studyinfo portal for accepting the study place. The email includes a personal link to My Studyinfo, please see . If you have already deleted the email, please contact student services (at studentservices@aalto.fi) and they can send the email again.

If your reason is the performance of military or non-military service, send the documents verifying the reason to the (at studentservices@aalto.fi). State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

If you refer to parental leave, send the documents as a secure message via  to to the student services at: confidential-startingpoint@aalto.fi. State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]". 

If you refer to a medical condition, send the documents as a secure message via  to the school-specific student services e-mail address. State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

The certificates must be either in English, in Finnish or in Swedish. If the original certificate has been translated from other language, the original document must be included.

We strongly recommend you to enrol and submit the document(s) by 31 July 2025, or sooner if possible, in order to allow enough time to process them by the end of the enrolment period. If you do not have valid reasons to enrol as a non-attending student, you will receive notice of the matter and instructions on how to enrol as an attending student.

Students who have accepted an offer of admission in 2024

During the summer, your school will send you information on starting your studies by e-mail. Because you have already accepted your study place, the instructions on how to accept the offer of admission do not concern you. However, other instructions on this webpage are relevant to you, except that you should enrol at the OILI service instead of Studyinfo. To do this, you need to have an Aalto IT account (see the activation instructions below).

Remember to read your Aalto e-mail address! If you have not activated your Aalto IT account yet, do it now.

New students admitted in 2025 and the duration of non-attendance

If you have reasons specified in the law for enrolling as non-attending during your first year of studies and they are in effect between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2026, you may enrol as non-attending for the entire academic year. Please note, however, that non-attending status may affect the amount of time you have remaining to complete a degree. For further details, please see additional information on the effect of periods of absence on the permissible duration of studies.

• If you enrolled as non-attending for the whole academic year but you want to have non-attending status for the autumn term only, you must change your spring term 2026 enrolment status to attending. You can enrol as attending in OILI service or by contacting the Student Services.
• If you enrolled as attending for the whole academic year, but you want to be non-attending for spring term 2026 only, you must change your spring term 2026 enrolment status. To do this, submit document(s) verifying the reason for the non-attending to the student services during the enrolment period for spring term 2026, which is at the end of the year 2025.  Please find instructions for submitting the documents below. You may apply for a  for Spring term after the enrolment has been completed.

If your reason for non-attendance is the performance of military or non-military service, send the documents verifying the reason to the (at studentservices@aalto.fi). State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

In Aalto University an orientation is also organized in January. Starting studies in January is not recommended for English bachelor’s students. Spring term courses can require knowledge from prior courses organised in autumn. Without these, there can be a very limited number of courses that can be completed in the spring term. Contact your programme’s planning officer/coordinator for more detailed information and to confirm your personal situation.

You should apply for housing as soon as you have accepted the admission offer or as soon as possible with the respective housing provider. The university does not own student apartments and students are responsible for seeking housing themselves.

Non-Finnish students in Finland may qualify for the governmental financial aid in specific situations (e.g. with certain types of residence permits). A description of the right to receive student financial aid is available on the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA) .

Plan and organise your travel to Finland

Studies in Aalto University start with an orientation during late-August – early–September. Check for the exact start date of the orientation programme: Programmes and plan your arrival schedule accordingly . Consider reserving a couple of days for settling in before the orientation programme.

You can activate your Aalto user account in July at the earliest after you have enrolled for the academic year and received an activation email for your Aalto user account.

The transfer of enrolment information from one system to another takes 2-3 days. In other words, the information is transferred to services such as Studyinfo, HSL, FSHS and Frank with a delay.

Please note: Student benefits are active starting 1 August (eg. YTHS and HSL) after you have enrolled as attending for the academic year.

The Aalto IT username and password are used to login to all Aalto online services. Once you have activated your IT account, you have access to many electronic services, including your Aalto email. The university uses email as the primary means of communication, so it is essential that you keep on top of your Aalto email at all times. You can activate your Aalto user account in July at the earliest after you have enrolled for the academic year and received an activation email for your Aalto user account. If you have accepted an offer of admission in 2024 or earlier, you can activate your Aalto IT account right away.

You will receive an email when the activation of Aalto IT account is possible. The email will be sent to the email address you have used when you applied to the university. Please follow the instructions of IT services and activate your account as soon as possible.

• You can activate your account at with your Finnish online banking details, Finnish mobile certificate or with a Finnish electronic ID (HST) card.
• If you don't have strong identification, you'll receive activation email, please follow instructions at aalto.fi. The activation uses the email and the phone number you used when you applied.
• If self-activation is not possible, you must visit the IT service desk to activate your Aalto IT account. Please remember to bring official, photographic ID with you (such as a passport).

Apply for a student card

The student card is a proof of your student status and it is the simplest way to get student discounts in, for instance, the university restaurants and public transport. For information on the student card, see .

You can download an for mobile devices after you have enrolled as an attending student. The electronic card is accepted in the university restaurants and public transport as proof of student status. The app will ask for your Finnish ID number but you can leave this field blank if you do not have one yet.

The right to student discounts begins when the right to study begins, i.e. 1 August onwards. The activation of electronic student card is not possible before 1 August.

If you wish to get the student card and discounts at the beginning of the semester (1 August 2025), enrol as attending at the latest by 31 July 2025.

If you have been awarded an Aalto University Excellence Scholarship, remember to accept the scholarship terms before the given deadline for the scholarship to be valid.

You can find the scholarship terms of acceptance and the link for approving the terms here. Read the terms of the scholarship carefully. Please note that you can only log in to the form for accepting the terms of the scholarship after you have activated your Aalto IT account. 

The deadline for accepting the terms is 29 August 2025. Remember that if you do not accept the terms of the scholarship by the given deadline, the scholarship is not valid and your enrolment for the academic year may be cancelled.

Orientation and the opening ceremony of the academic year

Studies will begin with orientation in August and September. The orientation will prepare you for university life, help you plan your studies, and introduce you to the student services to ensure a smooth start of your studies. The Aalto Day One Opening Ceremony will be held in 2 September in 2025, to which all students are invited.

Pre-orientation

To ensure a smooth start to your studies, aqcuaint yourself with the structure of your programme and with practical matters as well. Once you've activated your Aalto user ID, perform a 3-4 hour Pre-orientation on the . Activation of Aalto IDs is possible starting from July. 

Tutors and ISO-persons

During the orientation week, you will be assigned an older student. This older student will function as a tutor and will help you with practical matters. Throughout the orientation week, student organizations will host events in the evening and this will serve as an opportunity for you to acquaint yourself with both your new study enviroment as well as your fellow students.

Sisu & MyCourses

is a digital learning platform, from which you can view your own information and request a transcript of your records. In Sisu, you also register to courses and exams. You can find course descriptions and their timetables on the platform. In Sisu, you structure your study plan. is a platform, from which you can find the homepages of courses and their respective digital workspaces. You can also browse for courses on the platform.

The Aalto E-mail

WebMail (outlook.office.com) is the e-mail service provider that is used by Aalto. Once you've activated your Aalto user ID, you can also start using your Aalto e-mail. We will contact you by e-mail, so it is important to check your inbox at regular intervals. E-mails sent to your Aalto inbox can be redirected to another e-mail address. Read more here.

Pay the health care fee for students in higher education by 15 November

Finnish Student Heath Service FSHS (YTHS in Finnish) provides health services for students in higher education (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree). To benefit from FSHS services, most students must pay a healthcare fee. University students who are entitled to use the services of the  have been required since January 2021 to pay a student healthcare fee to Kela for each academic term. All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services. However, you do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country or from Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Even if you do not have to pay the fee, you can still use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service. Check if the FSHS fee applies to you: 

Kela is the Social Insurance Institution of Finland and OmaKela is Kela's e-service for individual customers. Eligible students can apply for e.g. student financial aid or general housing allowances from Kela. Read more on .

Public transport

You will be able to purchase tickets with a student discount once your travel card has a student status. You can update your student status at an HSL service point or purchase it via the mobile application. VR and Matkahuolto. Students get discounts from both and tickets. Be advised, once you've received a student card from AYY, you will not need any separate student card for either VR or Matkahuolto.
