Campus Development
One of the objectives of Aalto Built Environment Lab is to study and develop new approaches to the urban planning process. Presently, ABE is focusing on the development of the Otaniemi area as a case study. The area is currently going through many significant changes which makes it an ideal living lab.

The Story of ABE
In the spring of 2012 the Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics and Department of Applied Mechanics started to plan for a facility that would offer state-of-the-art methods and tools for designing and studying built environment.

CHEMARTS 鈥 New dimensions for the forest
CHEMARTS arranges multidisciplinary study courses and a Summer School for degree students, thesis projects, and workshops for elementary and high school students. It also participates in externally funded research projects.

Study Projects
In study projects, students solve real-life cases together with companies and other organisations.
Metrology Research Institute Doctors' Club
MRI Doctors' club gathers together doctors, who have graduated from the laboratory during its existence.

Collaborate with us
Our work at the School of Engineering is inspired by the needs of society. We seek to contribute to the development of society by taking an active role in Finnish and international life 鈥 dialogue with a variety of stakeholders and cooperation agreements with the Capital Region municipalities and key partners support this aim.

Calibration services at Metrology Research Institute
The Metrology Research Institute is the Finnish National Standards Laboratory for optical quantities. We offer various radiometric, photometric and spectrophotometric calibrations.

Excellence in Research
The amount of competitive external funding and the inclusion of one research team from the School of Engineering into a Centre of Excellence of the Academy of Finland give some idea of research excellence at Aalto University.
