In May 2021, we encouraged students to submit ideas on how to use 12 000 euros ("one euro for every student") of the university budget. Now it is time to vote for the best idea which will be implemented during autumn 2021 or early 2022.

Changes in student travel expense reimbursement
The Finnish tax authorities have clarified the guidelines for reimbursement of study-related travel expenses. In order to comply with the new guidelines, Aalto University has developed a process for reimbursing the travel expenses of degree and doctoral students.

ModerninArvo project affects debate on fate of modern buildings
The main individual sector in creating a carbon-neutral Finland is renovation construction. The surge in demolition and replacement of young building stock and entire areas through carbon-intensive construction is problematic for sustainability. The ModerninArvo project aims at finding solutions to the continued shrinking of the life cycles of architecture, and the renovation and re-use of the architecture from recent decades. The project is being funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

Amended regulations as of 1 August – what has changed for teachers and advisors
The new Degree Regulations for Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees entered into force on 1 August 2021, replacing the different regulations on bachelor’s and master's degrees that have existed previously at the school level. The Aalto University General Regulations on Teaching and Studying (OOS) as well as the Degree Regulations on Doctoral Education have also been updated.

ATLAS.ti users need to switch to version 9 as soon as possible
ATLAS.ti software version 9 is now available at Aalto University.

Aalto University is moving to cloud e-mail
The transition to cloud mail has progressed well. The mailboxes of Aalto's staff and degree students (in excess of 26,000 accounts) have been moved to the cloud.

Large number of Aalto IDs locked due to a denial of service attack
The bug is being fixed, and it seems  that the lockout would have ended at 4pm. Locked IDs open automatically after 15 minutes.
