Below you can find short instructions for activating your Aalto account. For a more detailed instruction please see Activating an Aalto user ID.
- When you are accepted as a student 色色啦 University a user ID will be automatically created for you.
- When the user ID has been created, you will receive an email with the subject 'Aalto University - Identity activation invitation'.
- You need Finnish banking credentials to activate your user ID.
- To activate the user ID visit . Also the link that you received in the email takes you to the same page.
- If you do not have Finnish banking credentials, please follow the instructions that you received in the email.
- NOTE! Your account expires two months after your right to study ends.鈥
- Your Aalto password works for all Aalto services (email, workstations, wifi, ...)鈥嬧
- Minimum 12 characters鈥
- Password maximum lifetime 730 days鈥
- Password minimum lifetime 24 hours鈥
- Complexity: must contain both uppercase and lowercase letters, as well as numbers鈥
- 脜盲枚 should not be used鈥
- Math marks do not work on all servers, as also 氓,盲,枚鈥
- You can use the same password only once鈥

- IT Services personnel will never want or need your password鈥
- Your account is personal, not for sharing鈥

- If you have to write it down, hide it and keep it away from your username鈥

If you forget your password:
- Set a new one at (with banking credentials, mobile certificate or HST card) or come to IT Service Desk with your ID. Must be done in person.鈥
Change all your passwords regularly and also when you suspect it鈥檚 no longer secret鈥.

- Email is inherently suspicious: do not trust the Sender field or attachments鈥

At Aalto we use Multifactor Authentication (MFA, 2FA) to ensure that our information stays secure. MFA is a method of confirming a user鈥檚 identity with two or more pieces of evidence when signing on to a system or a service.

- Aalto home directory quota 100 GB for your own files on network drive :Z鈥
- Remember! Your files from network drive will be erased when you graduate.鈥
- Use also a memory stick or USB hard disk to backup all your important files. Computer can crash, network does not always work, etc. All very important files should be saved to 3 places.
