June 2026 / Intro to Scientific Computing and HPC

Part of  lecture series at Aalto University.

Audience: Everyone doing computational work, special focus for summer workers who are just starting.

About the course: Summer Kickstart is a 2.5 days course for researchers to get started with the available computational resources at Aalto and CSC (the Finnish national computing center) and any other HPC system that you might have access to. 

This year we are trying a new format so that we can also cover other important tools in computational research to ensure reproducibility of your computations.

By the end of the course you get the hints, ready solutions and copy/paste examples on how to find, run and monitor your applications, and manage your data. In addition to how to optimize your workflow in terms of filesystem traffic, memory usage etc.

NOTE: It is important to register even if you cannot attend all days, because you will get access to the recordings and to the Q&A document. It is possible to get 1 ECTS, more info on the course page.
