Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) plan and progress

Development priorities 2025-2028
Our EDI Plan defines the ways in which we promote equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility within these four priority areas:
-
Diverse community:
Attracting diverse students and addressing imbalances, increasing diversity in leadership, personnel planning and decision-making bodies, and supporting individual needs from onboarding throughout the career.
-
Aaltogether culture:
Developing inclusive leadership and EDI competencies, fostering sense of belonging and community spirit, and developing practices to support international community.
-
Inclusive and accessible education:
Increasing students’ awareness and understanding of EDI, improving inclusive, accessible and multilingual teaching practices and systems, and developing doctoral supervision practices.
-
Integrated approach:
Integrating EDI and accessibility with annual processes and everyday operations, improving physical and digital accessibility, and enhancing the visibility and impact of EDI research and work.
The Aalto University EDI Plan defines the ways in which we promote the equality, diversity and inclusion of our community: our current state, recent development and development plans for the three-year period 2022-2024.
We have built our EDI Plan in a community-driven way with faculty, staff and students participating in workshops and meetings in which priorities and development plans were gradually defined.
Follow-up and statistics
The management and development of EDI work is part of Aalto University’s overall quality system of continuous development (Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle), and is aligned with the university’s annual planning cycle. The EDI Committee monitors EDI statistics annually. The EDI Plan feeds into school action plans that outline concrete action steps for each school
