Simulations of turbulence and magnetism in astrophysical objects
LUMI-G pilot
VISSI project aims to test the scalability of the GPU partition and generate workloads on the GPUs, particularly to stress test the storage systems for stability testing, of the GPU partition of the European pre-Exascale supercomputer LUMI. VISSI-projects brings the modelling of solar fluctuation dynamo to an extreme regime not investigated before.

VISSI-project was selected as one of the two Finnish pilots for LUMI-G. This pilot phase aims to test the scalability of the GPU partition and generate workloads on the GPUs, particularly to stress test the storage systems for stability testing. VISSI-project, lead by Maarit Käpylä, aims at investigating solar fluctuating dynamo at extreme parameter regimes not reached before with simulations of 16,000 grid points cubed with the Astaroth-solver developed by the group. The data sizes produced by such simulations exceed hundreds of Terabytes, and pose extreme data analysis challenges.
