Beyond e-Textiles: eighth iterative workshop

The eighth biannual workshop of the 'Beyond e-Textiles' project was organized on October 1-2, 2024 at the University of Turku (Finland). The workshop agenda was as follows:
The eighth biannual workshop finalized the seventh iteration period of the project.
Participating institutions:
-Aalto University (Aalto)
-University of Turku (UTU)
-VIA University College (VIA)
-University of Borås (UB)
The programme commenced with the opening of a prototype exhibition titled "Interlaced" in the main lobby of the Natura building. The event was officially launched with welcoming remarks from Prof. Kati Miettunen (UTU) and Prof. Jaana Vapaavuori (Aalto), followed by discussions and networking in a relaxed setting, where guests had an opportunity to interact with the 'Beyond e-Textiles' researchers. After the exhibition opening, a public lecture took place, with each project team presenting their research work. Following each presentation, the audience was encouraged to ask questions and engage further with the topics discussed. The first day concluded with the Steering Board meeting for the team leaders, while the other team members had the chance to explore the lab facilities at the Departments of Chemistry and Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
The second day of the workshop kicked off with a morning session dedicated to scenario building and discussions about the next steps for the project. After lunch, participants were invited on a visit to the LSJH textile recycling station (Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy) to learn how the station operates, how it sorts and recycles textile waste, and to address current challenges in the field of textile recycling in Finland and beyond.
This event was (partly) supported by NordForsk through the funding to Nordic network on smart light-conversion textiles beyond electric circuits, project number 103894.
